How to use a Vibrator: 7 tips for your 1st time experience!

By  Emma Hewitt

There is a reason that vibrators tend to become an owner's best friend. They are A M A Z I N G. And if you don’t own one already, then you are seriously missing out. Sorry, but it's true! While we all know that vibrators vibrate (the clue is really in the title for that one), nowadays they also do more than just that. Buzzing, rumbling, tickling, thrusting, squirming, throbbing, spinning, rotating. The options are almost endless! And that can make figuring out how to use one a bit tricky. But these 7 tips should help make your first time a much more enjoyable and pleasurable adventure with your brand new vibe!

#1. Thoroughly clean the toy first!

Just like your mom always told you to wash your brand new sheets or underwear before using them for the first time, the same goes for your sex toys, especially if it is an internal toy. Most sex toy materials are shaped in a mold and there will often be a residue of the materials used to stop them from sticking still on the toy when it comes out of its packet. But don’t worry! It’s super easy to get off. Just use some warm water and soap or a sex toy cleaner and it will wash right off. Make sure you find out in advance if the product is waterproof (meaning it is safe to be fully submerged in water), splash-proof (meaning that it can have water on it but cannot be submerged), or neither of these which means that you need to be very careful with cleaning and only clean the areas that specifically come into contact with the body.

#2. Check out the settings

Once you have the batteries in or have completely charged up your vibe then it is time to check out the full collection of speeds and settings. You are much better off doing this with the toy in your hand rather than diving in and using it in it’s intended area straight off the bat. This is because it might go up to a speed that is way too high for you without you realizing, and you can learn how to work the controls a lot more easily when it is right in your view, as opposed to down between your legs! Plus, you can go through vibration patterns like this, figure out which ones you find interesting and remember how many clicks of a button it takes to get to that one so you can get to it fast when the product is in use.

#3. Use a whole lotta lubricant

Regardless of how aroused you are, I would highly recommend using a great water-based lubricant along with your toy to keep things nice and smooth. As different types of materials have different rules about which lube they can be used with, you are best to stick to water-based for now as it is safe to use with any toy material. It’s great for all types of sex too and can be used in any orifice, which is a nice bonus.

Personal lubricant not only makes things nice and slippery, but it also works to protect your skin from any friction and can also prevent wear and tear on the toy for the same reason. Don’t worry, you will still feel the full sensation of the vibrator, as a water-based lube will still carry all that amazing sensation through to your nerve endings without inhibiting it. So, even if you are super aroused and think that you are naturally lubricated enough, you should use a little anyway as it will be much more enjoyable. I promise!

#4. Start sloooooowly

No matter how excited you are, and I know you will be, it always pays to go slowly with any type of sex toy until you are completely comfortable with one another and know each other inside and out! When you are first  getting acquainted with your new vibrator, just go slow and ease into it, especially when it comes to insertion and removal of the toy. If you’re too rough, you might hurt yourself and ruin the fun.

Keep the vibrator turned off when you first insert it or touch it to the skin, and only turn it on when you are ready. Then, when you want to, you can flick it on and let the good times roll. But you'll probably want to stick with the lower settings first and work your way up when your body can handle it. With most vibrators, it is much easier to turn the toy up than it is to turn it down, so keep that in mind!

#5. Try moving the toy around for a different sensation

While  vibrating sex toys feel amazing, there is no need to rely solely on the vibrations to have a great time. Think about other ways that you can maneuver the toy to get yourself going. You could try thrusting or moving the toy in a circular motion while it is inside you if it is an internal toy, or move the toy left and right or around in small circles if you are using it externally. While it may not necessarily be the thing that gets you off straight away, you might find a whole new world of sensation and have a lot of fun doing it.

#6. Get experimental!

Even if you know exactly the right way to use your vibrator to get you off, I still recommend playing with all of the settings, all the body parts and all of the positions that the vibe allows when you are ready to. Experimenting is all part of the fun! You don’t need to use it like this every time, and it probably won’t take you long to find your favorite way to use it, but you never know until you try right?!

#7. Clean and store the vibrator properly

Even though you probably can’t be bothered, this really is the key to a long sex toy life. For health reasons, you need to clean the toy thoroughly both before and after each use. You can easily wash the toy with a toy cleaner and warm water. There are even some high-quality silicone toys that can go in the dishwasher (if you are game), just make sure you find out beforehand whether it is ok or you might destroy your toy completely. Where you store your toy is just as important as washing it too. Make sure you store your toys out of sunlight and keep them in a bag or box to protect them from catching dust.

With these basic few tips, vibrators will fast become one of your best friends. Maybe even earn the title of your " battery operated boyfriend"! With a little bit of care, you should be able to use the toy for a long time coming! Is that mis-spelled?
